Anyone else here own a tiko?

Anyone else here own a tiko? This is my 5th printer and bought it off of a person on Facebook. Seems to like to shift layers ALOT. I was thinking maybe weighing it down a bit would help since it’s so light, or maybe the filament roll inside the printer makes it shake a tiny bit. Ideas?

I really wanted one until I heard about the reviews coming from it.

@Jacob_Bridenbecker_W the slower you print the less it shifts, but other than that I haven’t had any real issues besides connecting to it. We will see after this print is done, but layer quality and details seem really good. Bought it off of someone for $30

ok. 30 Bucks seems legit  i d take it as well.

Unfortunately, like many Kickstarter projects, Tiko never maaged to finish this. Many did not even receive their printers, and the proprietary firmware was never perfected.
The print in your photo is one of the better prints I have seen from a Tiko.

as you said. like often on kickstarter-projects. dying wip’s and betas.

@Carlton_Dodd it’s all in the settings to get quality prints. Some of their stock settings completely suck and if you are knowledgeable about printers and such as I am, this can print really well. Just a final issue before pretty much perfection. It’s printing at 100 microns right now and I will try 50 afterwards

Many of us warned the Tiko guys that their steppers were not only underpowered, but about their plastic gearboxes as well. This will only get worse over time.

i was supposed to get one but they stopped shipping before my unit came - yet wanted $55 bucks for shipping that was not happening
bad experience

@Abc_Def If you’re willing to share your settings, I’d love to get mine actually printing.
I’ve been wondering about replacing the controller with a SmoothieBoard, or maybe my Beagle Bone Black with the “Replicape” I got some time ago.

@Carlton_Dodd definitely will once I hey time

If it wasn’t for the layer shifts this would be an amazing print. I’m trying even slower speeds to see what happens

i think the best bet would be to replace the steppers with nema 14 motors , rest should work out

Using simplify 3d atm hoping the slicer was the layer shift issue

I used s3d and the difference is great. No more layer shifting and print quality improved. Just have to make seams not aligned and then everything should be smooth. Not bad for a little printer

Still shifted on the next print

@Abc_Def Those steppers just don’t seem up to the task. Add to that the loose connection to the rack gear, and you get too many potential issues.
Hmmmm… I wonder if I could take the Tiko brains, extruder, and hot end plate, then add similar sized belt-driven arms and small NEMA steppers, on a Rostock-mini-like frame, and get something working that way? Hold my beer…
