Anyone else here prefer direct modeling?

Anyone else here prefer direct modeling? If you can’t afford the commercial version of SpaceClaim with add-ons (mesh repair tools are awesome!) you may want to check out DesignSpark Mechanical. It is a completely free version of SpaceClaim with all the same features as the base software.

Here is a short video about 3d modeling that I did for work. A more in-depth overview of SpaceClaim is in my future plans.

I have DSM and used it some. My deal is it’s relationship with RS and the rights I have with the models I make with it, now and in the future. I have the same problem with 123D, especially since you have to store the models with them. Thingiverse was the same way and we know how that worked out.

@David_Cushing Definitely valid concerns. I’d be more concerned about 123D and sites like Thingiverse since, as you mentioned, they store/control the files. Still, as with any service, you get what you pay for, right? It’s always safer to purchase software that guarantees you retain rights to your creations.

Very true.

Been using it since it came out, great program
