Anyone else printing from the ThingMaker app?

Anyone else printing from the ThingMaker app?
It seems to be delisted but it was free and I’ve got a backup of the APK for Android.

This is my first print with snap together parts and i broke a few ball joints. I thought of sending sanding them down first, but they are meant to be snug once snapped together…

What would you have done?

  • heat the receiving side before pressing together (hot water or hear gun)?
  • print with a different material?
  • sand down the joint a bit?
  • use some grease?

I’ll reprint the broken parts and I’m leaning towards a short blast from my heart gun before trying to snap together next time. Interested in others’ thoughts here though.

Thanks!

Adobe bought them and the app is available under a different name.

@Daniel_Joyce oh really?! Do you know the name?

It started as “TinkerPlay” from Autodesk, then a partnership with Mattel rebranded it as “ThingMaker” a while back… there’s a website with no info and a ThingMaker branded printer coming to market, so i figured they were refactoring so it could only print to their own printer or something. Glad to hear it’s alive out there somewhere, wish i could find it.

Are you talking about modio? Yep – it must be, looks exactly like Modio. Now it’s “Tinkerplay” but it looks like it’s not available anywhere.

Edit: Tinkerplay was discontinued. @Autodesk why in fuck would you buy out Modio, only to discontinue their amazing product?

Looks like the Tinkerplay parts & connectors were added to Meshmixer.

Apparently they gave it to Mattel who’s integrating it into their printer.
