Anyone else using dual extruders just to have different nozzle sizes ready for printing?
I have some questions about this.
If you had one a volcano and one regular what kind of holder would you use? Or maybe better to use a volcano .4 nozzle as well to keep even.
World I keep both nozzle same height of find a way to slightly lift unused nozzle while printing?
Should I use a separate stepper driver or make some kind of switching device and manually choose which one to use?
Any other suggestions appreciated…

I did that for a while, keeping a .4mm nozzle in one extruder and a .5mm in the other. Not a huge size difference there. Planned on moving down to a .3mm or .2mm one for detail but havent had the need.

Keep in mind that most firmware uses the same PID parameters for all nozzles. Going to a different diameter nozzle wouldnt be a problem, but going to a different wattage heater cartridge and/or heat block like on a E3D volcano would require different PID tunning than a standard hotend

I haven’t tested it yet, but Smoothieware’s sample config shows that each hot end can be configured with its own PID parameters.

I really can’t say anything about the different strategies for switching hot ends. I can finely adjust the hot ends so they’re at the same height.
