Anyone got any ideas for panel mounting WS2812?

I am using them in a project where I need to mount them behind a panel — the problem is it’s a hard task to get them sitting right up against the panel itself. I can put them on to a separate PCB and sit them on pins which adds another 2.5mm or so — but they’ll still be sitting 3mm or so below the panel.

Any ideas anyone?

This is something that I am hoping to mass produce — so no hacks.

glue? (Of the caulk/mastic variety)

Hmmm don’t think so.

Best thing I can think of right now is to get a load of acrylic cylinders cut out and to insert in to the front panel. I know the LED light travels nicely through acrylic rod - and is especially bright if you sand the end.

Isn’t really implementable I’m bulk though
