Anyone have a suggestion as to where I could get an empty 38mm spool? I have ~5lbs of ABS from the days when filament didn’t come on spools, and now that I’m using spools, I’d like wind it on something to match the rest of my setup.

I had tried to print should on thingiverse and used up my loose filament eventually and ended up buying a spool, now I have my extra. Sorry, I’m no help but I feel your pain

I ended up buying a extension cord reel from home depot. I don’t think it matches your size requirements, but it was quick to pick up.

See if any welding firms have any empty reels from tig/ mig wire.

If 38mm spoil is the normal size, just buy filament on a spool, you’ll use it up, then transfer the filament from large pack onto it. That’s what I meant when I said I bought a spool. I hated babysitting the lose filament. I had it snap a few times when I didn’t uncoil it fast enough

I got three 5lbs. coils of ABS filament with my printer and I did what @Nigel_Dickinson suggests, only I didn’t have to go far to get the reels, I got them from my employer where we have a small welding shop. But the reels are much bigger than standard filament reels. Inner diameter is 180mm, outer dia. 300mm, and outer width is 100mm.
