Anyone have experience with LinuxCNC on Beaglebone? I’m rebuilding one of those blue and white 40W chinese lasers cutters and was thinking this might be a good option.

You and I are thinking along the same lines. I am considering adding one of the CNC capes to drive the steppers safely. Will probably look in to feeding the steppers 24v and/or swapping them out for lower voltage versions to over volt them. I am hoping for more speed.
I know that xylotex bbb cape is commonly used in big machines.
