The mechanics are new developed and not public now. The system works right now with a 1.5W diode laser, but it’s designed that also a 10W CO2 could fit in.
I got stuck in development, because I co-founded the FabLab Winti. It’s a little bit more than a year since I worked on it.
The powder delivery system is the slowest part at the moment, a new version is now ready for testing.
The electronics are just what’s inside most RepRap printers, a RAMPS and 5 Nema 17 motors.
As software I used to slice Slic3r and a special postprocessing tool I wrote.
I may upload some parts undid videos of the running machine later this week.
There are still a lot of todos on the mechanical, electronics and software site to do.
It is possible to weld the powder with a 1.5W laser … It it’s not comparable in speed with a industrial sintering machine, but it is possible, just a balancing act of the parameters.
I was very lucky to get some special PA with a low melting temperature, specially made for sintering.
