Anyone know of non-specialty shops that sell thermistors?
Tried rat shack and other electrical supply companies locally. If not, i’ll just order online. Was hoping to get my hands on one today if possible.

Almost no way anything like that is going to be available locally.

Thermistors are kinda deep-catalogue items, even for a hardcore electronics shop. This is made worse by the fact that there is no such thing as a generic thermistor, and they’re pretty much useless without the accompanying datasheet to tell you how to convert its output to temperature. Thermocouples are more standardized and thus more likely to be found in a local place.

Thanks guy! Hate being the noon here, but this resource is amazing. Wicked time saver

The problem I’ve got is: I now have 5 unused thermistors…they came with my Rumba…the Extruder came with one, too…it’s the only one that fits the Extruder. What do I do with the other ones? (Temperature output under printer: 25C) (Temperature output kinda to the left of the printer: 24C)(Temperature of an arbitrary area as far away from the printer as I have wire: 25C) I’m stuck with extra wiring kits, pulleys, Kapton tape, 21 feet of PTFE tubing (down from 25 feet)

I’m going to guess that no one would actually act on this, but you can get a thermistor at most RadioShacks…the problem is it’ll cost you, and after that you’ll still need to modify your firmware. Basically RadioShack often stocks Arduino starter kits, like the Make Ultimate Microcontroller Pack ($175) which contains two 503 thermistors. That’s a 50k at 25C so you’d probably have to add your own temperature table to the firmware as well. Clearly I’ve never tried this, and I can’t see when I’d ever be that desperate to be up and running today…but maybe an option. Of course there could also be cheaper things to buy locally that have thermistors you could remove, but it’s easier to just keep a few spares on hand.

@Whosa_whatsis so do you guys stock thermistors at your shop? I realized you’re only 16 minutes from my office and getting some spares would be a good excuse to check stuff out…

It’s not an item we usually sell, but we keep plenty of the honeywell ones on hand for our extruders, and we’ve done it in the past.
