Anyone on here have experience adhering the ws2812B strips to the inside of glass/plexi so that they shine out.

I considered a dab of hot glue to the front of the chip and then sticking it to the glass but that seems a little “cheap”

Most strips come with 3m tape on the opposite side but I need to light to be protected by the glass and still shine through.

I’d consider using an aluminium channel with the strip in like the ones used to surface mount led strips.

Also avoid any solvent based adhesives as they’ll probably destroy the LEDs!

Ive done this with Hot Glue

Thanks for the input fellas. I’m gunna test it.

There are a variety of optically clear adhesives. You might find a suitable epoxy or silicone adhesive. Whatever is used to stick cell phone digitizers to the displays would be worth a look.

Let us know how you get on…

I’ve used hot glue and clear silicone caulk adhesive. Hot glue is nice because it’s fast & undo-able. Silicone is nice because it’s super sticky, but it takes a while to set up.

If you do opt for an RTV silicone adhesive, there’s an electronics grade that doesn’t contain acetone so as not to corrode the electronics. The common stuff from the hardware store that smells sour may give you trouble.

I’ve used glue dots in the past. They make kinda big ones almost like a squashed junior mint size and recently I discovered thick rectangular ones. I tried them in late night desperation when the hot glue was shifting on me. I only needed them to last a few weeks but they were still super secure when I removed them- which was also fairly easy with a razor blade against the glass.

Thanks. I’ll be looking into all of these soon

Just checked and it was the 1" glue lines from glue dots. I use them for matting and framing art usually. I put them in between every pixel for a matrix mounted under glass. They were almost undetectable vs the dots which were slightly bigger than the width of the strip ( the ones I had anyway). They were upside down and stayed firm. Not sure how it would go in fluctuating temps or exposed outside.
