Anyone using this slicer?
https://www.simplify3d.com/

Yeah I use it. Really love it. There are a few things I would love to see changed but the end result is fantastic.

Probably everyone who can afford it. I used a “loaned” key for a while, then decided to pay for my own. I’ve never regretted it.
Some of the advanced things it can do are great. Vary temp and/or speed throughout a print. Print different layer heights on different items on the same build plate. Probably tons of stuff I haven’t even found.
The documentation isn’t great, but there are a ton of great features.

To me, it’s the best software out there… bar none. It has features that no other package really has… I love that I can vary the slicing parameters per layer… so I can really tune how a print comes out. Also, their supports are the best in the business… and easy to add or remove anywhere you need.

The best slicer out there, if you can purchase a license, do it, you won’t regret it. It take some time to configure all the options but once you tune everything, the results are superb

As mentioned, the documentation isn’t great. The best resources are in their forums. Tips and trick threads or some such. Have a poke around over there, the threads should be stickied.

@jinx_OI have you used this buddy?

I heard Mattercontrol is also good and its free. I wish simplyfy3d would offer a 15 day trial not a money back offer.

We use it at work, and don’t use anything else.

@John_Car #Simplify3D is very handy software, especially for directly supported printers. After my review for Czech 3D printing webzine (http://www.3d-tisk.cz/simplify3d-vyplati-se-placena-aplikace-pro-pripravu-stolniho-3d-tisku-recenze/) it’s my first choice on Printrbot Simple Metal (upgraded with #E3D V6 hot end). The difference in quality of prints is visible. (Some samples at homepage gallery at http://www.kopec3dtisku.cz, scroll down a bit.)

@Tomas_Vit Wow those prints were done on a prinibot simple metal using Simlify3d?

@John_Car Yes, and it was a kit (my 1st one). All metal hot end (E3D V6) and additional area cooling (Tom's simple symmetrical stand for 120mm fan (V1) by tomulinek - Thingiverse) play a role in it too. And here you can inspire yourself with nice profile for #Simplify3D and #Printrbothttp://i.tvit.cz/1QuLZXj (I use it as a base of my own printing profiles; works very well and it’s close to main profile in Simplify3D for our printer). Most of these prints were done with PLA from @Fillamentum (quality Czech producer).

PS: The last thing I fight with on Simple Metal are bearing blocks (I have the 3rd pair and again scratching the rods). But it is a long story of quality controll and Y arm geometry.

Yes I use it for my Flashforge and would recommend it. The support folks were super helpful with a couple minor problems and the program does a great job.

You can get great results with any mainstream slicer, but S3D has a good combination of powerful features (that have some learning curve) and easy setup to get started with a working profile. What I really like is the fact that it will export alternate file formats like x3g for Sailfish, the new json format the 5th Gen Makerbots use, and the Dremel Idea Builder file format. So people with multiple printers in different “ecosystems” like me have a very easy time using one slicer to run everything.

yes it is OK

I have been using it since January but sometimes switch to sli3er to print with pla i don’t know why though

It is a good starting program when I getting into 3d development during my collage course maybe.

I have only used MakerWare with my Replicator 2X and never had any issues. Is there anyone who uses something better than MakerWare?

Makerware is fine, but Simplify3D is way better. Used to be, Makerware was better at dualstrusion, but S3D 3.0 is better now.

A lot of people would say Slic3r, Cura, and KissSlicer are better than Makerware, but it’s more work to get any of them to export the x3g files a Rep2x uses.
