They have been available for awhile at the MicroCenter in Madison Heights, MI (near Detroit).
it’s @MCM_Electronics , part of my corporation Premier Farnell, they are doing a hell of a job. All the Adafruit, Raspberry Pi and BeagleBone stuff is via them… any maybe even more. Retail FTW!
plus I don’t have to feel guilty about going outside my corporate family. CircuitCo -> MCM -> Microcenter
I’ve appreciated seeing the way they’ve expanded their entire “Maker” section over the last 12 months or so. It’s slowly grown into a huge section of the store that is starting to dwarf the gaming section. The prices are all reasonable and generally match online retail as well.
Available at the Saint Davids, PA Microcenter. I bought my second BBB there.
@Marcos_Miranda the http://microcenter.com site has a list of their retail stores under the “Locations” link. It’s broken down by state.
@Drew_Fustini_pdp7 Is MCM responsible for the entire shelf layout at Microcenter or just the Beaglebone product line?
How much do Microcenter retail stores charge for a BBB?
@Bob_Hartwig I paid between $49 and $50 at my store in Saint Davids, PA. I thought it odd that they did NOT have a compatible power supply in stock; I ended up getting mine from Adafruit.
@David_Anders @Michael_OBrien_hardw i’m all for having more beagle stuff (power supply, capes, etc) at MicroCenter (and Fry’s and RadioShack I hope too!), but i’m super happy with what Microcenter currently stocks. $50 for a BBB at a store in my city is awesome. One of the big advantages of BBB over other boards like Pi is you don’t need a power supply for the out-of-box experience. Just plug it into your computer and go!
(btw, the BBB’s awesome out-of-box got a lot of traction at Make Faire. I think talks by @Jason_Kridner1 , @David_Scheltema & me helped folks see how simple it is).
[off-topic] @Michael_OBrien_hardw I get my BBB power supplies from Adafruit too so I thought I would mention this most excellent little item they carry: http://www.adafruit.com/products/1125
btw, since I never linked: this is the @Micro_Center product page: http://www.microcenter.com/product/416355/BeagleBone_Black# I just add to cart for pickup, checkout (no payment), then you bypass the check out line when you get to the store. the fetch you order at a special counter and you checkout. it’s a slick process.
