Are there any addressable rgb led ropes or strips or types that any of you have used when needing extra brightness?
ws2812x’s and apa’s and the rest all use the same chip if I understand correctly right?
It would need to be directly visible in daylight
They use very similar 5050 packages, but the amount of light emitted varies. The datasheets report the luminous intensity in millicandela.
The WS2812B datasheet [1] claims R=390-420mcd, G=660-720mcd, B=180-200mcd.
The APA-102C datasheet [2] claims R=300-330mcd, G=420-460mcd, B=160-180mcd.
That would seem to suggest that the WS2812B emits notably more light than the APA-102C. I haven’t compared them side-by-side in terms of brightness, though.
You can get modules with 6x 5050 packages mounted onto a small circuit board mounted under a dome; these usually run at 24V and are insanely bright, but are also pretty big.

@Luminous_Elements thanks for the thoughts! Yeah I’ve been browsing through some of the various options on ray wu’s store and else where. may end up going that direction as a last resort !
There are also 12V WS2811 strips which have pixels consisting of 3xRGB “clusters” instead of of 3 linear points. The strip is 20mm wide instead of 10mm, but you get 30px/m resolution instead of 20px/m.
