I chose no because I use other programs more, but I am starting to use LW more and more for milling as I figure out how to do things and features get added.
I could’ve chosen no, because I don’t have a CNC, but that would be muddying the waters and dilute the poll… But you might want to change the question to make clear you only want CNC Router owners to respond here…
My goal in moving to smoothie has always been to use smoothie and smothieware with a single tool chain for all my cnc devices, including 3D printing, laser and router.
I am not happy with the perf. issues with LW/smoothieware and do not want to move to grbl. So I am evaluating alternative tool chains, meaning I am not sure yet that LW will be my overriding CAM choice.
I use Estlcam for Booth cam and control. Like hos simpel it is and i has really good probe functions. But use laserweb for my laser.
The router runs it’s own proprietary blend of 11 bugs and malware.
Mine is a shop bot, the tooling seems ok. I’ll use lw once my laser is assembled.
Lw4 is great for laser but its CAM functionality is not quite there yet. Vcarving gcode generation is very slow and can’t handle intricate drawings. I do lots of vcarving on my CNC and use f-engrave or fusion360.
I am using bcnc on Linux + grbl. It does it all and nicely (well, mainly pcb milling in my case), and I tend to favor native apps over supercharged web apps. Now the weak point is the USB link anyway, and I want to give laserweb another try. Last time I did it lacked some useful options, but it really was long ago (dynamically patched tool changes, autoleveling saved in a file, etc).
Never touch a running system! My CNC is working perfectly with Mach3, but I’d like to move to LW4 for it’s nice and easy CAM.
Using LW only sparely for wood milling.
Most of the time I am milling PCB’s. I am using Candle (grblctrl), as I need the heightmap functionality.
BTW, using LW for my K40 laser all the time.
I just discovered laserweb recently when looking for something to replace laserdrw. Fairly tempted to try except I’ve already invested in mach3 + gecko g540 for my cnc machine.
I use cambam for cam, and mach3 and linuxcnc for the cnc and laser. I plan to use Fusion 360 for cnc cam in the future.
Mainly 'cause I still haven’t even started building the machine !
At least am I funding a (great) local FabLab (8fablab) paying for their ShopBot work hours…
Damned 24 hours days
