Army of Marvins. From left to right, carbon fiber PLA, stainless steel PLA, and Iron PLA. I’m impressed with the quality of the filament. Once I sorted my blockage in the hotend, things came together nicely. Thanks again for those that helped me out!
If you are looking to do long term printing with this type of material you may want to consider using the Olsson Ruby tip. http://olssonruby.com
@Alex_Hayden eh I looked into it. It’s ridiculously expensive and may not hold up too well with these metal composites. It was designed for printing carbon fiber and the tip is made from aluminum oxide which was actually damaged by a customer cleaning it with the rough side of a sponge. I’d recommend E3D’s hardened steel nozzles.
@Adam_Steinmark : The #olssonruby is affected by cleaning it with sponges containing Aluminium Oxide abrasives, yes, and so are every other nozzle out there, a hardened or tungsten nozzle will also get rounded edges by cleaning with the same rough side of the sponge.
The only metal filament that in testing has been able to produce any kind of wear on The Olsson Ruby is the GMASS Tungsten filament, and that is only because it contains very large tungsten particles that does not get fully embedded in thin layers and act as “hammers” that blast the edge of the ruby when it passes over. That said, we have not tested that specific steel filled material you are using, just the #Colorfabb SteelFill.
Also, it was actually designed by Anders Olsson around some crazy abrasive custom Boron Carbide filament, but since carbon fiber composites is the most abrasive filament in mainstream use, the marketing is focused around that.
I just plan on replacing them when they wear out… Nozzle is only like $3
@Jules_Hoehn : as long as you do not attempt larger prints in carbon fiber filled filaments, that strategy will work pretty OK. With CF you loose print quality visibly already after a few hundred grams.
Looks like it’s only available for 2.85mm filiment so far with “Possible” plans on other sizes according to the FAQ section of that website…
