As promised, here’s a few pictures and video of the RGB LED clock I built for my son last year…

It has a total of 555 8mm LEDs pixel modules with WS2811 chips. 420 (7X60) for the clock section and 135 (9X15) for the pendulum section. All LED data is driven from a single pin of an Arduino MEGA. It uses a 5V 20A PSU (this is total overkill when running in clock mode). It has a DS3231 RTC module, a WTV020SD sound module to generate a TIC-TOC sound and a BELL sound (Sampled from the AC-DC Hells bells song  on the hours (Once at 1 O’clock, twice at 2 etc…) a Bluetooth module paired with an Android app and an infrared LED either can be used to set the time or select different animations and text displays.

It took me more time to build the oak enclosure as it was to program the thing using the FASTLED library as my LED driver.

What DS3231 RTC module did you use? … This is great

I found it on eBay… http://www.ebay.ca/itm/DS3231-AT24C32-IIC-module-precision-Real-time-clock-module-memory-module-Arduino-/400503978923?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d3fe5bbab

Wow that’s amazing!

I just added a few pictures and a short video of the predecessor for my RGB LED clock…
This is my original RED LED clock that I built back in 1981. Notice that it is still ticking away and has worked flawlessly for over 33 years !!!
No RGB, no Arduino but a simple RED LED clock with a TIC-TOC. It keeps time off of the 60hz mains frequency. Built with simple counters, shift registers etc…
I wonder if my new clock will live that long…

Seriously impressive, fantastic craftsmanship!

I love the pendulum!
And “thx” to you too for sharing this, and for the shout-out! Great great project.

This is really good. Bravo sir!

Just wonderful! Congratulations.

Nice work JP!

awesome !!!
