As this community races towards 50.000 members, i’d like to invite everyone to discuss what kind of content they want to see in here. At times we’re seeing floods of irrelevant (yet not distinctly spammy) posts that bury the good stuff.
I know everyone wants to show off their achievements, but posting every single successful print simply is too much. The fact that Google+ does not allow post to be hidden from the main view without deleting them does not help, either.

What is your opinion on this? Are you happy with the amount and contents of the posts in this community?

This post will get updated and migh eventually be sticky’d as the discussion progresses

I haven’t really seen anything irrelevant; there’s maybe a little too frequent multiple-posting of a print by an individual or two; we can just ask them to ease off a bit or limit it to an album-a-day or something. Like @Jose_Gemez is posting a perfect amount of stuff regarding his Repemaker, (though I constantly read it as rapemaker). A lot of the conversations are getting upvotes and shares, so I think we’ve really got just the right amount of content. I feel like I reply to too much stuff though and that I’m hogging the place. :[

Can we work out some posting guidlines, like if you want to share multiple pictures, add them to an album instead of posting them induvidually ?

Most people already do that. We see much more spam/bs than others though, one of the downsides of being a mod/owner. A lot of it gets removed, but it also means a lot of people don’t see it in the first place.

I think some rules/guidlines would be useful as a means of ensuring fairness if nothing else. Particularly as different mods will have different approaches. Incidentally I agree with @ThantiK that the mix is pretty good. Hopefully g+ will allow for more granular control over what gets into a person’s feed soon.

I have been a member of the group for about a week now. I have enjoyed reading almost all of the posts. The % of spam I have seen is very low compared to other groups.

I see lots of innovation here. Makes me think about how important and game changing 3D printers are going be in our near future. Planes, buildings, food and everything else you can imagine will be printed out.

Being part of this group is like being able to go back in time to Steve Jobs garage and be there when they were trying to figure out how to make the first PC. ~ People once thought that the idea of having a personal computer would never take off. 3D printing is going to be the next major technology, and many people from this very community are going to help change the world.

I’m with @ThantiK and @Gulf_Coast_Intellect . This community is doing well. You should see how much spam I see over on the @Raspberry_Pi forum!

@Carlton_Dodd , a lot of times I see the spam on the raspberry pi community, and refresh 3D printing knowing that it’s coming in just a couple of minutes.

I’ve been very happy with this group, its my favorite group anyways. Even the seemingly simple/ ‘first print’ posts and requests for advice tend to spur discussion, which is what its all about - unless we would rather it break into seperate groups per purpose. The closest to spam I see is I tend to see a lot more posts by advertising/ news sites introducing the same links to the same info but over seperate 3D printing news websites. I see so much more of those than regular community posts (I’d rather see the community involvement/ discussion.)

So, what about posting about the Filastruder? Technically, it isn’t the act of 3D printing, but on the other hand, it is directly related. I have a post I’d like to share and wondered if it is in the grey or not.

Post away, creating filament is part of the whole process so If be happy to read about it.

I’m happy as long as there keep coming cool pictures of printed stuff!

For me - I enjoy the stuff on new printers but I’m really interested in the functional components which are starting to arrive as a result of this. Things like working pumps and motors - stuff which could not be manufactured in any other way.

Now that people got over ‘omg 3d printers for GUNS?!’ the community has had a great signal to noise ratio. Thanks to the mods for being able to keep up.
