Assembly has come to a stop… ball bearings keep escaping from the linear rail carriages:disappointed_relieved:
any tips or tricks for me?
Print an insert shaped like the rail to hold the balls in!
Too late for that I’m afraid. Already took apart the only printer in the house
Noooo never take apart the only printer
that’s why you need two…
Hahaha yea I’ve done this like 3 times now. One day I will have a second one…I keep promising my self
You can re-feed the balls. Clean the balls of any dirt and contaminants, and the ball tracks on the car if any dirt got in there. Make sure to measure the ball size with a caliper now, in case you need to order more. I think hey are 2.5mm, it check for yourself.
Slide the car into the rail so most of the car’s ball track is on the rail but leave some of it out, trying to be careful not to eject any more in the process. Push feed in the loose balls into the exposed gap until all of them are in there. It’s OK to have a gap in the ball track that looks like it’s one ball wide, that seems normal. Two or more might mean you lost some and should order some.
@Jeff_DeMaagd that’s very useful knowledge. Thanks!
@kenneth_rooks anyone can easily get a second printer. I used to work in IT. When I was teaching apprentices to fix laptops I’d say:
“If you pull apart a laptop, put it back together again, turn it on and test it’s working - sometimes you’ll discover a screw or some part that you forgot to put back in. But it still worked without it right? Well here’s a secret. If you keep pulling that same laptop apart and putting it back together again enough times, you’ll eventually have enough parts to build TWO laptops.”
“Really?” some would say with an unsure look on their face.
“No stupid. You pull it apart and put that bit in where it’s supposed to be. Every part, every screw is there for a reason. Even if it does work without it.”
Haha
