attention ultimaker owners. I have a sainsmart version of the 1.5.7 board. the board was shabbily constructed and I had to resolder every joint. Tonight I put power to it the first time and about shit myself when a capacitor exploded in my face. It was the tantalum one beside the 3 fets could someone please tell me the value on an original ultimaker 1.5.7 board. thanks guys the pcb says 100 uF but the geetech version I have has a tantalum 104 .01uF this one did not blow up on me. but I want to put the correct capacitor on the board
Pretty sure the only reason a cap would explode like that is if the polarity is reversed. That small of a difference in capacitance shouldn’t have any physical effect.
Tantalum caps will reliably explode when their polarity is reversed. :-) It’s also a pain to get the polarity right on the small ones.
Yeah my thoughts too on the polarity.
