The thermal camera can’t detect the temperature of the upper portion of the heatbreak, only the temperature of the surface of the heatsink.

Yes sure there will be some reflection, but it is still showing the sharp transition. The FLIR is 10 degrees off from what the thermistor is reading because it’s closer to the core.

No, not reflection - an IR camera only tells you surface temperatures. It does not tell you the temperature of the inside of the heatbreak.
