Bed adhesion on an aluminum plate? I’ve tried glue and abs slurry and kapton. Kapton works but when I take off the part it brings up the tape where the part was making it a one use thing. Buildtak isn’t a really good option for me… I have one I can put on but re leveling and calibrating without messing up the sheet will be very hard. Already tried with my other printer before
I use a glue stick and an auto-leveling probe.
I never print on bare aluminum. Glass is usually clipped to the top, and hairspray works great.
I’ve always just used blue painters tape on my aluminum bed.
I’m attempting buildtak again. Here we go…
You can prepare a solution using PVP (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyvinylpyrrolidone) and isopropyl alcohol. When the bed get cold, the part printed detaches itself.
The pvp sounds cool. I actually have the buildtak leveled and working now. Guess my other printer just didn’t like it. This stuff is amazing when it works
Try hairspray, works great and it’s easy to apply.
I use abs juice or elmers glue on aluminum @110c bed without problems.
I also scuffed the aluminum bed with 600grit sandpaper
Hmmm. My bed is usually at 90. Is that too low?
Turn it up, i used to print at 90. Much better at 110
If hairspray doesn’t work, you should try 3DLac. It’s basically hairspray but much stronger and without the additives and parfumes. I use it on IKEA mirror tiles with ABS at 90°C and if I use too much 3DLac I cannot even get the prints off.
If you print ABS on bare aluminum you have to be over 100ºC. Did you try printing PLA? It sticks very well for me without any additive at 70ºC.
3D Eez works exceptionally well for me on a heated alu bed
Ok. Hate to plug my own vid again, but I just reviewed PEI self adhesive sheets on YouTube from a company called CS Hyde. Printed a couple variations of PLA on a cold bed with no trouble. As I’ve heard, printing on PEI with a heated bed is even better.
I’ve settled with buildtak for now. Until the nozzle crashes into it
Diluted PVA (wood) glue works well on glass for ABS. Don’t know how it works for bare aluminium, but worth a try. Super easy to get, fairly easy to remove and reapply. It should be thin enough to be almost invisible when cured.
White wood glue diluted in water works fine on bare aluminium as well
