Been a little quiet of recent but the is up and running,

Been a little quiet of recent but the #AX-03-Railgun is up and running, excuse the mess. I’m still trying to get it dialled in. The #DrakonExtruder is shining in direct drive configuration (see the voronoi vase). It’s currently running a RAMPS/A4988/Arduino/Marlin 1.1 combo which is currently a rat’s nest of wires off to one side. I’m waiting on the Smoothie based board to arrive which has in built TMC drivers on board. The extruder motor is a 0.9 degree pancake motor, with the XY motors being standard 1.8 degree steppers and the Z being a 0.9 degree one, the 1.8’s were ones I had lying around. The bed is fixed with no springs and levelling is being done with Marlin’s mesh levelling. I’ve not got the magnets for removeable the microswitch probe atm, so I can’t use Marlin’s UBL for more accuracy. I still need to sort an electronics enclosure and work out how I’m going to run the connections. At least it’s up and running. Also, excuse the mess…

looks great! any chance for you to do the hole test?

Good job!

@Cristian_Nicola - link?

@Cristian_Nicola I’m in the UK, but you’re lucky I have a few Euro coins hanging around from when I lived in the Republic of Ireland. I’ll get it on the printer when I’ve completed this print.

thank you very much :slight_smile:

@Cristian_Nicola damn perfect
missing/deleted image from Google+

so it is not the plastic cooling or other bull. i have asked the same calibration thing on various forums and most of them answered with use a drill to get the right size hole or design your holes bigger as this is how the plastic cools down. my printer will get the 2 euro coin hole about .7mm short… (d-bot with some modifications)

@Cristian_Nicola - it’s mainly the motion system, linear rails have pretty much 0 backlash

couple more questions if i may: what material and software did you use? did you resize it at all or just print? thank you very much for testing this! (now i will have to start building a printer like yours - that would be my 9th of 10th i build and still have not managed to get one to print holes)

Sliced in S3D at 300microns 20% infill, in FormFutura EasyFil PLA just placed and printed. All the Files for the AX-03 are open source and on GitHub https://github.com/AxMod3DPrint/AX-03-Railgun if you want to build it. There’s no BOM atm, but extrusion and rail sizes can be found in the Source CAD

Alex, can’t say atm as it’s a prototype board.

@David_Sherwood working very well atm. The XY accuracy is within 0.07mm which is so much better the the rest of the printers I have which use Linear Rods and bearings/nylon bushings
