Being a Boy Scout in your youth often helps later in life.
Case in point: this morning as I read the news and had a cuppa there came a thunk from my Tricolour Mendel. Peering bleary over my monitor I find the y rail holder has decided to give up the ghost after two + years of unswerving support.
Having given out my last pack of spares I was a bit stuck. Until I remembered I can do knots.
I have no idea what the basis of this knot is (a sheep shank?) but who cares - with a bit of lashing it’s enough to get a new set of clips printed!
Yes! don’t laugh at the scouts, it is old skills but they might come in handy sometimes.
Amen, I had to lash a trowel to a broom stick to clean my gutters this weekend. #lifeSkills
I should print something…
Not really @Nathan_Walkner - just unscrewed the nuts on the bar and moved it out enough to slip the new one on. All of 20 minutes work. The z end needs replacing next - again, no more than 20 minutes.
Mine’s the a frame too - it’s just a meter high now
With only one printer there is that sphincter clenching moment when a part breaks and you just need it to hold together just long enough to print a replacement.
I had a gear break in a Wade’s Extruder once. The next half hour was me staring intently as a new one was being made. The old gear managed to not completely fail but it was close.
Now I try to keep spares of any crucial parts on hand.
And that’s exactly what’s on the bed now @Henry_Bakker ! Can’t be without those spares…
