Black screen in work area

Black screen in work area

Any thoughts on why I would get a completely dark work area? Tried loading CP logo and got the same result. Was just able to get my X Carve connected a few min ago for first time. When I use my laptop (not connected to cnc) and drag files in they look great. Head scratch…

WebGL doesn’t work on your computer then. I recommend you run serial port json server on that box and then run ChiliPeppr on your new machine.

This happened to me today too when I updated my browser(Firefox)… For me it was a webgl thing… Had to go in and change the settings… Still can’t get it going on chrome for some reason.

Super confused now. Easel uses WebGL for the preview thru Chrome and that works on both laptop and the connected desktop. Both machines are Win 7 64 bit. John, any other options? I specifically bought that desktop for this cnc, hate to throw it out.

Colleen: Tried Firefox and same results. What did you have to change in Firefox? I don’t have a browser preference, just want it to work.

Just tried it in IE 11 and it works fine. Very odd. I didn’t think anything worked well in IE

Still would like to have it fixed in Chrome if there are any ideas.

@kevin_rodgers Things do not always make since. Try shutting down computer and restarting use chrome again and see what happens. Some times there are bits and pieces left in computer that once power is shut down clears it out and all of a sudden it works. . It has solved so many of my problems. good luck

I had the problem on my old PC after installing Win7. Adding dedicated VGA driver solved the problem.

Could also try incognito mode in chrome, if it works there then you should just wipe your cache and that may fix the issue. I can elaborate if needed.

@jlauer Know of anyplace that has documentation or a demo of going that route, ie: using a WebGL hobbled machine as the serial port json server then connecting via a different computer? Anything special need to be opened up? (sorry for the noob questions, totally new to this, and trying to figure the best way to get things running for our makerspace.)

I recommend folks run SPJS on the low-end machine and then run ChiliPeppr on a high-end machine. CP does require some decent CPU for the 3D viewer, so it’s worth getting something worthwhile. However, I’ve heard even $300 chromebooks run it great.

Hate to bring this back up but…
Was using IE 11 thru March and then it just stopped working completely. Have been using Chrome with no display since and just “dealing with it”. Trying to do complex cuts is a little scary now! Have added a dedicated video card with no luck. Easel still works but MUCH rather use CP. Any more ideas?

ie doesn’t actually work as far as I’m concerned. Clear your cache in chrome (my answer for most problems  ) or start with just a Shift F5 with CP open to clean refresh chilipeppr.

I haven’t had webgl crash on my Surface Book for about 3 months, so I do think it’s all about video drivers sadly.
