BuildTak with ABS

I’m very impressed so far with how good BuildTak works with ABS. This was on a 80 degree bed too. The bed adhesion was so good there was some mid part shrinkage that caused a couple of stress fractures part way up the model.

In Slicer I have to add a bit of Z offest: -0.15mm

How is it with PLA? I may buy one just for big prints.

@Ben_Van_Den_Broeck See my other post earlier on about that. I’m not impressed, but others are. Seems much more useful for ABS.

@Ryan_Branch has had great luck with PLA on it

I just got my Buildtak the other day and ABS sticks like a mother. Had to dig out my trusty old spatula to pry the prints off even after cooling. Its great though I don’t have to use brims anymore.

After another print I had a bit of brim that was pushed down too hard and I now can’t get it off. I guess I had better stop using a brim on BuildTak.

Maybe try this? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007YRAZJI/ref=pe_385040_30332200_pe_309540_26725410_item

They get quite delicate at the smaller gauges but you could file down an edge and unscrew the handle to make a tool for this. Just kinda spitballing though as I don’t own a build tak yet.

What I was wondering is how durable this is. Since it is rather expensive, I would be disapointed if I could do only a few prints on a sheet.

@Keith_Woeltje It helps a bit. I never used PLA, I’m more into ABS. Anyone any experience with that?

I print on it with ABS and it’s holding up nicely. I did mess up a section with a razor prying off a particularly tough print though. I usually use a razor to release the edge then a putty knife to get the rest off.

@Ryan_Hescock_Stanos Thanks for your reply. When I wrote that, I was having trouble with ABS sticking to glass. Not anymore. Printing a thick first layer solved that, so I’ll stick to that method, as it is much cheaper.
But I’ll keep it in mind.
