I didn’t realise that sodium hydroxide can dissolve PLA!

I wonder if an effect similar to ABS + acetone vapor smoothing can be obtained with PLA + sodium hydroxide?

One day I might try this with dilute sodium hydroxide - using all due care appropriate to handling the sodium hydroxide of course…

@Paul_Gross Never heard about vaporizing sodium hydroxide, but it sounds dangerous :stuck_out_tongue:

Taulman Bridge filament. Don’t know about its bridging ability. Thought it meant it is a nylon (tricky stuff to use) type material that throough the way it is produced acts more like PLA. It “bridges” the gap between the two

@Nick_Lievendag
I wasn’t thinking of a vapor, just a weak solution with the PLA immersed for a while that hopefully does the equivalent smoothing that acetone vapor does to ABS.

Vaporising sodium hydroxide sure does sound dangerous!
