Can anyone help me …how can I control the speed of stepper motors?pls help cos I have a project to be submitted tomorrow…thank you

How are you driving it?

Ummm, not sure what your setup is or what you have to work with here. You need to know the capabilities of your printer. But in general you can set the print speed in your slicer and it will give you an estimate of the time. With the proper interface to your printer you can change the speed on the fly. Typically print speeds of 40 - 60 mm/sec give good results on most printers.

Be careful with trying to crank up the speed too much regardless of the method or you can cause a skip and that just burns time.

3D printing can take time. Bad time with a deadline to be experimenting with the speed capabilities of your printer. Good luck pulling this off.

They are rotating step by step. Adjusting step rate you control rotating speed.

I use ramps 1.4 and a4988 drivers and I use reprap full graphic smart controller with marlin firmware… Actually I am using steppers from CD drives

What is your slicer and what is the problem you are trying to solve with the speed?

@Jeff_Parish thank you…but I am using a custom built 3d printer made using old CD drives …and I’m not sure bout it

The axis moves rapid fast like that of a CNC .

Is it calibrated yet? It sounds like you might need to set up the steps per mm in Marlin if it is going faster than you expect.

@Jonathan_Buford sir I am not sure what a slicer is but I use Marlin and smart controller to control my 3d printer

@Jonathan_Buford and how do I do that? U can send me link on how to do that …thank you

Or, if it is moving the right distance, you need to set the speeds up in your smart controller.

How are you sending the print to the printer? SD card or USB printer com port?

Do you not have a menu item on the graphic display for adjusting the print speed?

@Jeff_Parish yes I use SD card…but I don’t know on which option do I need to go to control the speed

Could u pls send me a short video on controlling the speed so I can get a clear view of it

Look for a feed rate command. If your printer is moving too fast then turn it down. too slow turn it up. Default will be 100%. The adjustment applies when you actually are printing. Jogging the axis around will use whatever the settings are in your firmware.

Oh I got that! Thank you so much

Thank you to all who took time in helping me…thanks a lot

I have a different interface with custom Firmware that won’t likely apply to you. I have a 5 button LCD interface and press the up arrow to speed up the print and press the down arrow to slow it down.

I suspect that you will have something similar on your interface but will use the dial on your LCD to select and adjust it.

Yes I use reprap discount full graphic smart controller and it has rotational selection …
