Can anyone suggest a spring (preferably on eBay) that is strong enough to be used on my smartrap extruder? I have been using a screw tightened down and don’t think it is a good setup anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You can make the extruder without springs, it works: https://plus.google.com/112467558426863470913/posts/Nkv8BSMTx4t

@Maxim_Melcher Interesting, how do you adjust tension without spring?

@DongWon_Han_DWONH with 1,6mm drill. Insert instead of filament, press the ball bearing close to drill, tighten the screw. Done.

This sounds like a terrible idea.
Filament (even the best) has some variation in diameter, and not all filaments are the same hardness. So, 1.6mm clearance (I assume you’re allowing for the bite of the serrations on the drive pulley) might be fine for some portions of some filaments, but definitely not for all.
@Griffin_Paquette
I searched ebay for “rep rap extruder spring” and came up with many sources.

@Carlton_Dodd Trust me, it work fine with ABS, PLA, PETG, HiPS, Nylon and WoodFill. Look my videos.

@Maxim_Melcher
I’m glad it works for you. I think I’ll stick with the ones that are working for me now, but I’ll keep your idea in mind.
