can i use 1.75 mm filament with a hot end made for 3 mm?
Not really. One people have sleeved the hot end bore but that’s likely to cause its own problems, depending on how it’s sleeved.
@Jeff_DeMaagd whats the best way?
Getting a hot end made for 1.75mm. What hot end do you have right now?
@ThantiK i dont know i would have to check the paper work that came with the printer i just know it takes 3mm
Yeah, there aren’t any good ways to convert any hot end I know of, short of replacing it entirely. Even the ones that look modular need over 80% of the parts changed to convert it, at that point, it’s often cheaper to buy the whole thing than buy all the little pieces.
@Jeff_DeMaagd , the J-head is pretty easy to convert over from 3mm to 1.75. But you need a lathe for a good result.
@jesse_mccabe no i just ordered it so i haven’t had a change yet
Lulzbot had some good results on the mini at reprapfest.
It’s worth trying. Worst case it won’t work. But it won’t hurt anything
ill try it
I’ve heard of it being done successfully on several printers, usually by accident. Even in the best-case scenario, you can expect sub-optimal retraction behavior and general flow control. There’s also a good chance that it will eventually jam, but it seems to work, as least temporarily.
