Can you 3d print from the cad software?

Can you 3d print from the cad software? Im planning to create a new vehicle in this software

In general the process looks like this.

  1. Create your model in any CAD package
  2. Export your model as a .stl file (this is a text file which defines triangles that approximate your shape, but you can not modify .stls easily. You can scale and rotate, but it is hard to change one feature)
  3. Import the .stl into some program that will slice it up into layers and create a gcode file. This tells the machine how to move
  4. Load the .gcode file on your 3d printer and print the parts.

Again, this is a general concept. It is possible to 3d print parts in a different manner than this, but this is the most typical way.

Since you mentioned it, what type of new vehicle are you planning on making?

Most likely a buggy or truggy and im gonna take the risk of makin it nitro. Make a few molds for mounts etc. i currently have a nitro car

And at the moment i dont have access to a 3-d printer

I would be really cool if you took the OpenRC Truggy and make a branch of the project where you modified it for nitro. Not sure if the truggy could hold up to that abuse. But It would be cool.

Do you have a link to the cad models?

Im currently in high school and ive taken a class on cad. Shouldnt be too hard. How heavy is the car? That will determine small block or big block

Would you be willing to try out the nitro conversion?

Here is a link to the CAD files.

I am not sure how heavy the car is. I would be interested in a nitro car, but I already ordered all the parts to make it an electric version. Work on the CAD to make it a Nitro, someone will be interested I am sure. Depending on how long it takes to make my truggy, I might start a second one. lol

Have u had any experience with nitro? It wouldnt be too hard to convert to nitro from electric

I don’t have any experience with any rc cars actually. I have a really cheap radio shack toy, but that is all. Like I said, if you work on the CAD someone will be interested.

Dont go nitro. Trust its challenging. I cant seem to find the right files to open in cad…

The OpenRC Truggy Assy.stp is the assembly. When you import that it will generate all the part files.
