Can't get reprap display working

I have done a search and have not been able to come up with a solution. Basically I have no function of the lcd or rotor. It may be a few things. At the same time I installed the voltage reg on the smoothie I also have one one the shield. Do I need that one and do I need a diode. If powder is not the problem. I have read somewhere that the connectors can be inverted l. I’m hiding this doesn’t just mean swap ext 1 for 2. Do I actually have to flip the connectors over? Any help would be grand. Thanks Matt

Is the panel an original from reprapdiscount, or a clone ?

Flipping means taking the black plastic enclosure around the connector itself, and rotating it 180 degrees.

Thanks Arthur I think that was the problem. I was then playing with the contrast pot and it fell of and got a nice burning smell.

I will pick up another tomorrow and continue.
