Changing over my direct drive extruder stepper to this 5.2:1geared Kysan stepper. Upgraded my machined hobb to the blddk hobb from Makers Tool Works. Hope this helps all the filament stripping issues I have had recently.
On a side note is anyone else using an Ezstruder with a E3D hotend? There is vertical slop because the groove in the E3D is larger than the retention band in the Ezstruder. It makes leveling the nozzle a pain and moves up and down with feed/retraction. I am using a washer above the E3D to hold it down for now… But would like a more elegant solution.
I ended up wrapping some 1/4" kapton tape around the neck of the e3d a few times so that the ezstruder halves fit rather snugly. Haven’t had any issues with it moving.
The standard j head interface, AFAIK, is intended to be pushed downward from the top and held in place by the groove. This sandwiches the top flange, keeping the hotend preloaded in compression. You might be able to wedge some aim in addition to the washer. Won’t look better, but will prevent movement during retract
Gotcha, I feel your pain. Fortunately I have a Makerbot at work… Which has 2 extruders so there’s a built in backup for the inevitable extruder failure
