Chinese UNO, please help.
Done tonnes of reading without resolution.
I have a Chinese UNO, just identified as “UNO” (with a WCH 340G serial chip) onto which I’m trying to install GRBL v0.9i SO2 hex.
Only shows up as USB-SERIAL2.0. Have tried the CH341SER drivers, and even XLoader at 9600 and 115200.
I’m either missing something or have a bad board.

this is why these things aren’t a bargain. just get the real thing, only a few dollars more, and tons of community support.

I have access to both originals and these Chinese knockoffs from my kids’ school supplier. We are trying to organize a cheap kit parents won’t have a fit over when they see the price. Getting GRBL installed is also self serving. So, at present “a few dollars more” is not the solution I was looking for.

If I reckon correctly, latest versions of grbl can be compiled and uploaded using Arduino IDE. Have you tried that?

Fair enough @Matt_Kasdorf here are some links to the drivers:

Do you have a link to the particular board/supplier?

D’oh! We got hung up on the 340G… we will try a “burn” from the IDE and GRBL source.
I’ll let you know what’s up next. But a “proper” UNO will be purchased to avoid confusion with the students.

Hmm… no success… shouldn’t the IDE leave a hex file somewhere? It appears to compile and upload successfully, but nada, nothing.
Looking closer at the Chinese 340G “UNO” I see it has a 12MHz crystal not 16 like my official UNO.
But blink, compiles and uploads without issue, blinking the “L” LED.
Well GRBL says it probably won’t work without an original UNO, and I guess this proves it :-p
