Where’s the nerd chat at?
I just spent about $600 between @OpenBuilds1 and @MISUMI_USA to get parts for the new printer on the way. I’m interested to see how the openbuilds V-rail will work on a CoreXY style printer. If all else fails, I’ve got enough Z built into it to convert to a Eustathios or something like that.
We’re shooting for 24" cubed print area this time.
I just made a similar purchase on Saturday! … I think that Sli3DR beats out CoreXY for the best motor/pulley configuration. It uses the same H-bot style gantry but decouples the motors movements.
I’m torn over what is “best” for the Z axis but I’ll be going with something similar to the QuadRap for my build – I like the cost savings of using the frame/spectra over rods/screws. For my own bit of flair, I’ll be using guitar machine heads to attach the platform to the spectra which should allow me to avoid using springs/screws to perform leveling.
@Eclsnowman might advise against corexy given his experience with building one. Personally I think spectra is more trouble than its worth, especially given the low cost of GT2 hardware these days.
I’ve been through ingentis/Eustathios builds and for all their awesomeness their Ultimaker derived mechanics relies on very straight shafts and bronze bushings which cause their own problems. With those experiences and considerations in mind and with no interest in pursuing core xy, my new machine is a kind of hybrid that could easily be applied to vslot. I’ll dig out some pictures.
Incidentally, I’m not suggesting you follow my lead here, just relaying some hard earned experience
