Completed round two of my slide design. This one is smaller, lighter and uses four rollers instead of three. I need to tighten up the holes for the wheels, but it looks like this is about right. I want to round the corners as well, but tinkercad doesn’t give an easy way to do round corners… I have to look into this more.
Nice! Is the rail readily available like that or was it custom-made?
Tim is correct, I got them from openbuildspartstore.com… they seem to work well so far, HOWEVER they seem to be designed for a larger extrusion. The ones that I bought for this project are 15mm, however these seem to be more for a 20mm extrusion. I need to go find the proper screws and nuts to hold this rail in place and then go buy a few more. (to make a rail like pictured here you need two openrails per vertical run. It was not clear to me (until they were in hand) that to get the proper “V” on both sides of the rail you need to put two rails together. (This makes more sense if you view it on the web page now).
I am very happy so far with @Mark_Carew_OpenBuild (Openbuilds Part Store’s Google Plus account) and am planning to purchase more parts from them in the future for my next project (CNC machine)
Why did you opt for four rollers instead of three? Did the three roller design have too much play in it?
There was to much play, so I wanted to see what 4 rollers would do. That didnt work much better and in fact there is an issue with getting the proper tension on the rollers now, so I am trying something new, going to finish up the design tonight and print and test. Going back to a three roller design with a “pinch” ability. Stay-tuned.
