Cosplay prop finished, just need to get it to my friend to integrate into his gauntlet. Display runs at 24 FPS and LEDs at 120. The 3.3v m328p 8Mhz can handle the load but the 2k of RAM is gone ( 1/2 to the display buffer ). I’ll probably be looking to the Teensy if they want to upgrade.

Great work on the display content!

Started with the demo stuff and started playing. Converted a few fonts and only the Imperial was left, the others didn’t make the cut. Graphics are svg’s converted to xbm via GIMP but knowing this display I can probably shave a few millis by formatting GFX in the right way ( since it’s a weird video ram layout ). Still lots of library cleanup.

This is awesome! I’ve been wanting to play around with graphics on those oLED modules.

I’ve just got some of the new x-project ESP8266s in stock. They’re tiny and have loads of stackable shields including a 1.3" OLED and a 12 WS2812B ring. This would look great on that set up.

I was a little disappointed to find out the esp8266 doesn’t have hardware i2c which I’m exploiting on the AVR to run the display updates while doing the LEDs. I’m reading online that the ESP32 has 2 channels and can be mapped to any GPIO with memory based buffers so it should really rock the bits off anything else in this price range. Can’t wait to get my hands on a Adafruit Huzzah32 / feather with the built in charging/battery.

@Eric_Warnke , WeMos and Sparkfun also do ESP32 boards with built-in li-ion chargers

With SPI communication these little OLEDs work way faster. With a Teensy and hardware SPI I squeezed out arround 650 fps… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh9_JUiUiNg

I’m really looking forward to a proper ESP32 OLED library with hardware SPI.

hmmm, something in there looks VERY familiar!

Yep, friend wanted a targeting display and I said “show me” and he sent me that video. Took about 30 minutes to add it to the rotation.

I would love to add a MPU and make it interactive ( horizon level and such ).

That would be very cool, and not that hard to do. I like some of the stuff you have in yours too mate, especially the Aurebesh font. I was looking to add it to mine but gave up as a bad job. If you fancy sharing that it would be appreciated.

I take no credit for the font, it was converted. Same with the icons, they were svgs pulled from wokipedia. It would be a lot better if I did some tweaking, but for now it works with the Adafruit GFX libs.
Note: this won’t compile without another library that’s not there yet.
