Couple more pictures of the delta frames stood up as well as the bed. There was some concern about the rigidity of the frame and I wanted to throw a couple more (crappy) supplemental photos up for it.
I will most likely add full panels to enclose the back two sides and provide rigidity as well.
I haven’t been around for a few days, what is going on with this build? Did you go with 2020? Are you using 2 extra verticals of larger size off of one corner of the delta, similar to a MiltyKoss extruder mount verticals?
@AlohaMilton I ended up going 2020 for the three rails that motion runs on. I also have those two 2040 braces that are strictly mounted to the two back sides to provide bracing. I am also putting the spool holders and extruders on those (starting with two extruders and hopefully upping to four quite soon). This is somewhat similar to how you did it but I have mine directly centered on the base horizontals to provide rigidity and a shorter Bowden path.
The base will be an 8020 piece across the front and the back two being two 2020 on each side to allow for psu access as well as USB access.
Had a couple comments on my last post with concern about flex. I don’t think it will but only time will tell. Also ended up going openbuilds.
Just waiting on some more of the frame rails as the order got mixed up a bit
The extruder hangs freely, the carriage height simply adjusts the location based on geometry, as you well know. Frame flex can only come from inertia of something like a direct drive or arms of unequal length causing issues, even then in my experience the carbon fiber arms will flex before the frame will even with 1515.
What will flex the frame is hanging a nema 17 off the outside of one of the top horizontals, and other asymmetric weight applications to the linear motion verticals.
You’re going in the right direction by removing any weight from the linear motion frame to another frame specificly for anything not active in the positioning of the effector. It helps the fundamental kinematics and helps troubleshoot any issues by isolation of systems that perform different tasks within the machine.
