Covering wires on wearables.

Covering wires on wearables.

With Halloween and the inevitable lit costumes approaching, here’s a quick and simple method I have for covering colored wires, or keeping multiple wires together.

Get hold of the thicker, round boot laces in the color of your choice. I prefer black since most of my stuff is worn in the dark. If you cut off the ends, you’ll find a core that slides out and leaves the woven exterior layer behind. I just cut the lace “tube” to length and slip it over the wires for a flexible, professional-looking cover.

You can also give the ends of the tube a quick drop of super glue to prevent unraveling or, if it’s a synthetic material, sometimes cutting it with a soldering gun blade does the job.

Buy cheap paracord. They even sell them without the inner strands. Perfect for holding together wires, as long as you’re not trying to hold together a large bundle of them.

Or use woven polythene wire shield… really cheap, available in tons of colours, use a bit of shrink wrap to tidy the end. You can get it in sizes from about 1.5mm on up.
