Custom PRINTinZ Print base holder
Since I now use my PRINTinZ plate for everything; PLA, ABS, Bridge you name it, even Bronze, I thought it would be worthwhile making something nice to hold it and keep it flat instead of using bulldog clips.
I sketched something out and got a friend to machine it up, works great
Very nice! Can I have one?
I wish there was a cost effective way to make them.
Why not just make the rails from bars tock and drop the plate? Just a thought.
Because the heat bed isn’t rigid and neither is the PRINTinZ. You need the aluminium base to keep it all flat.
A cheaper way of manufacturing it would be to have a flat piece of aluminium and have bolt-on edge holders
Yeah that would be one way.As long as it was flush top and bottom so the extruder didnt hit the bolts. My problem was ordering a “dead flat piece of aluminium”. Turns out you have to get them milled flat anyway.
Fixture plate comes milled flat and it’s cast type, so it doesn’t distort (or distorts minimally compared to rolled or extruded) when heated.
That’s awesome @Wayne_Huthmaker
@Daniel_Bull Nice tray Daniel. I have a concept for something very similar that I plan to prototype in a few weeks when my larger printer arrives. It seems that you have machined the slots in this tray specifically to accept your plate. Note that the component layers have tolerances and any given PRINTinZ plate will vary in thickness. The concept I plan to develop will use springs to compensate within the range of plate thicknesses.
Yeah sounds like your idea is better, I noticed the newer PRINTinZ plate I have is slightly thicker. But luckily nothing I can’t fix with a bit of sandpaper
