Daft Punk printed in white ABS. I will post pics after finishing.
Print in clear PLA and shove flashy LEDs inside it!
I have never tried printing with PLA because I have heard some nightmare stories with the rep2x.
It’s actually nice to print with I was the same way until it’s all I had at the time. It can be quite stubborn but so can abs.
I heard PLA is better for detailed prints. I print Cyvasse game pieces at .12mm ABS and I am happy with it but I would love to see some done in PLA.
We get the “PLA is crap” message a lot. Then we send some of our PLA out as a sample and - what do you know? It’s actually nicer to print with than ABS with less warping. Could that be because there is a lot of cheap, badly adulterated PLA out there? The lesson is, don’t just buy the cheapest stuff you can find from Asia on eBay.
There are also still some people who think it’s water soluble or spontaneously biodegrades. Wrong on both counts.
I had an issue with a 4"x4" square I was printing in ABS that would warp. My buddy printed it for me in PLA and he said it is perfect but the grid lines are not as smooth. No matter which type, you are right on cheap filament. You definitely get what you pay for.
Is not really about the plastic, but the Replicator 2 exists in ABS and PLA specific versions, the ABS one (2x) is not advertised as being also capable of PLA, and according to stories it really doesn’t do it. I think the extruder doesn’t handle it.
So far my experience has been that abs is great for finer details, but pla is good for large flat pieces that tend to warp.
I don’t know how you do it either, but Makerbot seems to.
