What did you order, and are you sure? The WS2812’s won’t have separate chips on the strips, just LEDs because the chips are embedded in the strips. (Can you post a closeup photo of about 4 inches worth of strip that you got?)

If all you asked for was an RGB strip, then that’s what you got. If you asked for a WS2812 strip, those LEDs have the IC embedded inside of the LED casing, so they don’t need a separate IC. And four wires could be VCC, GND, DATA, CLK, or, R, G, B, and GND.
I’ve got some WS2812 strips with 4 wires, but if you look closely, there are 2 wires to GND. Do you see labels for the lines on the strip somewhere? On mine, there’s just GND, +5V, and DI (data in). And on the outgoing side, you’ll see DO (data out) chaining to the next DI.
We discovered what he has are analog, not digital.
