Decided it is time to upgrade my Wanhao Di3.

Decided it is time to upgrade my Wanhao Di3. I have gathered up the following for the upgrade:

Arduino Mega2560
Ramps 1.4
MKS TFT32 touch screen display with wifi module
PNP inductive sensor for bed leveling
Marlin firmware
3d printed display screen housing
3d printed sensor mount

I have been spoiled by my Printrbot Simple Pro with its touch screen and bed leveling, so this setup will be a very welcome upgrade.

One other upgrade I just completed that benefits all my maker machines (CNC router, 3 laser cutters and a diode laser engraver) is an HP media server with 8 TB of file storage, I have split the storage to have 2 TB for the CNC machines and 6 TB for movies music etc. Using the HP media server has sped up network serving of files dramatically over just sharing drives on my desktops/laptops. Using a real server really made a huge impact, files take about 1/3 of the time to transfer now.

As far as I know, a mks tft32 does not work with a ramps board.

It works, all it is doing is sending Gcode via serial, the tft screen has its own processor. You can actually customize the icons and commands you want to send to the printer.

Why would you upgrade TO 2560/Marlin? I’d recommend shelling out for a Duet or Smoothieboard.

I alrready had the 2560

@funinthefalls why not just put Marlin on the Melzi?

Not enough free pins on the melzi to use an inductive sensor for auto leveling and dual extruder in the future
