hi all.
i have been slowly working my way through making a delta style printer. the frame is done and now i am trying to figure out the settings in the config file, which for me is the hard part. so far i have managed to get the motors to run in the right direction and get the endstops working, so i am able to home z. now, the next step in the guide is gamma max, but ofcourse it does not say if it sould be measured in steps or inches or something else. so, which is it? also, seems that the motors are alternately named in three different way, 123, xyz, αβγ. what corresponds to what?
thanks.

Hey there.
Everything is measured in millimeters.
Did you read <http://smoothieware.org/3d-printer-guide>>> and <<<FLOATING LINK: http://smoothieware.org/delta> ?
Cheers.
yes, i have been reading those pages. seems that the very same thing i asked has been added to them very recently, since i dont remember seeing it last time i looked. thankyou to whomever put that there.
Yeah the information was already there, but wasn’t clear enough, so I made a more “verbose” explanation. Glad it helps.
okay, next question: the guide talks about delta radius, is this the same thing as arm radius? and how come my arm radius needs to be over a centimeter shorter than the actual measured value in order to keep the nozzle moving even close to paraller to the build plate?
i also tried playing around with the automagic probing, and after it did its thing (over and over) the nozzle seemed to be folloing the plate pretty closely, so i guess it worked. but as soon as i turn the darn thing off, its back to being wonky again. so is there a way to get settings to stick?
I’m not sure about the arm radius …
About saving your calibration settings, M500 should do it.
i did use m500, but it did not work. tried again today and now it did, odd. it also made config-override file on the sd card, why it did not do it last time? anyways, nozzle seems to be level now.
next one: extruder advances the filament roughly three centimeters when im aksing for ten. i tried chancing the extruder seps per mm setting, but it did nothing at all. now what?
Once you use M500, it creates a config-override file.
That file is going to override some of your config, as it’s name implies. One of those is going to be your extruder’s steps per mm.
