Delta owners - Need your assistance. I’ve been fighting for a while with an issue that’s causing blobs when printing the shells. Hopefully I can explain this well. Here goes…
I’ve adjusted multiple settings with the extruder itself:
- Retraction distance
- Extra restart distance
- Coasting Distance
- Wipe distance
The issue with the extra material “oozing” doesn’t occur at the beginning of the layer (I’ve adjusted for restart distance, which seems to work), or at the end (wipe setting applied). It’s when my effector moves outward to start the next perimeter. Right now I have my number of perimeters set to 3. When test printing a cylinder, the extruder makes the first perimeter pass, and briefly pauses before stepping outward to the next perimeter. This fraction of a second pause is enough for molten plastic to ooze out, creating the blob.
I can’t find anywhere in any settings in any of the slicer applications (Primarily using Simplify3D) to create a more smooth transition between perimeters. Would this be a firmware (smoothieboard) setting, perhaps?
Hopefully this makes sense. If anyone’s experienced this and found a fix, I would greatly apprecate it. Thank you very much in advance.
I experienced something similar when I used kisslicer, but moving to Simplify3d fixed it. Since you’re already there…
My printer has a smooth transition from inner shells to outer shell and I love the appearance of the outside of the prints. My guess is that you’re correct in suspecting something about your firmware.
What is your firmware max speed and acceleration?
Some slicers let you choose which if you print the inner or outer shells first. Maybe you can adjust that. You may also be able to choose different speeds for infill, outer shells, inner shells and other parts. I mainly use Cura and Slic3r myself. I do not know if your slicer has those settings or not.
@Ross_Bagley If you’re not having any problems with Simply3D, then it has to be my firmware. I’ll check my settings when I get home. Do you mind me asking what yours are set to? I’d like to compare to know if I need to increase, or decrease the acceleration and max speed on mine.
I’m using smoothie (azteeg x5 mini) and I’m more than happy to share my config with you.
@Ross_Bagley I’m using the Azteeg X5 as well. The larger delta I have (that’s producing the aforementioned issue) is using the X5 v.1.1 and I’ve just ordered an X5 V3, which should be arriving soon.
