Did you think that only the Hephestos 2 would be Open Source??

Okay, I really am just getting into this whole field, and I’m basically a blind man. Does open source mean that somehow through this link I can go download the schematics for the 3d printer itself, thus enabling me to approximate the unit itself, and use it for 3d printing? Is there even a basic model of printer which I could download blueprints for and do the same for free? Basically many ideas, zero capital.

It means the whole design is published (the open source bit) and you are permitted to copy, refine and share (the CC-BY-SA licence). The emphasis is that you should share any improvements you make.

@Clayton_White ​ Some printers are better suited for diy-building than others. Check out the RepRap Prusa i3, there is a branch with a frame you can easily make with a simple shop saw.
Many other printers need laser cut or a milled frame. So the open source is more intended for modifications than building from scratch.
