Discovered a way to remove the molded seal that some of the LED strips I have come with: freeze them.
So we had a parade of lights tonight and I had two strips with me, one sewn inside of my Santa hat, and I had another one loosely rolled up in my camera bag that I was going to just wrap around it. It was 7° F at the start of the parade … windchill was closer to 0° … When I pulled the rolled up string from my bag, it was completely stiff. When I tried to straighten it up, the seal started cracking and literally falling off, completely brittle. The strip still works though, it’s just the clear seal that’s falling off. As soon as the strip “thawed” out when I got home, it became as flexible as it was before.
The one in my hat held it’s shape when I took it off and I had to wait for it too to thaw out. So now I know these strips with the molded seal aren’t meant for cold temperatures. I’ll have to try using the sleeved ones and see how they hold up.
