Do you think they used FastLED to control all those lights in the Olympic opening ceremonies? 
The vertical cylinder of light strings was glorious.
The giant LED covered ramp they took the torch up was pretty cool too.
Almost certainly not, probably a media server (hippotizer or something similar) fired off a lighting desk.
