Does anyone have suggestions on what software to use to convert .stl files to other formats? I’m building the Openrc Truggy and i want to modify certain parts.

I would suggest using the STEP file of the assembly if you want to modify parts.

I don’t know about changing STL to a different format. However I do edit them. I use openSCAD. You can import an STL file into openSCAD; you can’t actually modify the object but you can tack bits on and cut bits off. It doesn’t work with all STL files because some are binary and some are text and openSCAD will only work with one of the STL file formats. I don’t recall which one. I made some notes about it a while back on my website here:- https://sites.google.com/site/carbootreprap/make_this/requirements_for_success

Thank you Daniel. I can convert STEP files. I have tried this but the STEP files are not available. They are not available on GrabCad or Thingiverse. Github only has the .STP file of the complete model not the individual parts. I dont have cad software. I’m only using Cubify Invent so im pretty limited. More people would build OpenRC if it was just a bit easier.

Thanks Blayne but how do you open .STP files in sketchup?

the ‘correct’ answer might be ‘Meshlab’ which converts almost any 3D file to any other…

if you want to change stuff, learn to use Blender

Cubify Invent doesn’t convert assemblies. The Github .STP files is the full Truggy assembly.

Meshlab doesn’t support .STP files

FreeCad

Fusion 360 did the trick because you can save parts as separate .stp files from the assembly and they then can be opened in Cubify Invent. Thanks guys. Having said that any ideas on the best way to make wishbones longer without redesigning them in Fusion 360?

yes the model seems to be totally intact. Well i can only move the whole wishbone. Scale works but scale doesn’t let you change by mm
