http://www.cncrouterparts.com/auto-z-touch-plate-p-288.html

i have one in the mail. I just 0 off the table, then jog Z+ the material thickness in CAM for now.

Works like a charm, CNCROUTERPARTS great folks.

Will this work with most CNC software or is it only for Mach3?

If you change the Jack/plug, Yes. It’s just a Switch. When grounded Z-Plate will trigger.

Seems as if this is something we could DIY, and save a bundle in the process.

I prefer this over others. Why?, safety incase my probing errors out, it’s spring loaded to take the impact: up to a specified mm.

to do it yourself you just need an alligator clip and a conductive metal piece on the other wire. One is ground, one goes to the probe pin. You can put a sponge under it if you are learning, but the probe speed is very slow.

@Julius_Jahn Correct, your method can save you some $$.

I like this spring loaded touch probe. That would save me many broken tools during TinyG2 probing attempts.

@funinthefalls indeed many options, think we have a 7.00 one. It is just completing a circuit on the Z limit switch.
We use Chilipeppr, auto level, alligator clips, Zmin. This allows us to cut a 1/3 sheet of Al. and autolevel all Gcode for the entire job. Absolutely amazing. Single point though, wouldn’t bother buying anything commercial.

I also use a piece of copper and a clip. Never had a problem with that, using grbl.
