Does anyone know of a way to get a cheap 3d printer that I

Does anyone know of a way to get a cheap 3d printer that I can build at school or a company that might need people to test new designs.

Define cheap.

The class probably has around 500 dollars but we are trying to get a grant or extra funding.

Is an idiegogo campaign out of the question? Just don’t ask for too much and define what you expect the outcome to be. Provide some form of perks in return. Worth a shot if you can get that far.

There are a bunch of projects posted online for making one from almost nothing but it would take skills to do that. The repraps made mainly of threaded rod sound like they are the most likely thing for you to actually make.

Makibox launches soon

@Rojer_Wisner Can u please explain to me what an idiegogo campaign is

Mitchell, I hope the link Arashi provided is sufficient. If not, the quick answer is that it is a method of getting funds for a project. Projects can be almost anything - I haven’t read their guidelines, but there are two methods for funding - an all-or-nothing and one for keeping whatever funds you do raise. If there is an adult volunteer who is willing to create the campaign try to present the best sales pitch of your life - saying what the best and worst case scenario would be once you received funds. To help say thank you, provide some kind of a perk, a postcard with the class hoovering over the printer, a printed part, some form of token of your appreciation. Wait for the campaign to end, get your funds and send out your thank-you’s.

my take is that if you just give a really good shot at telling people out there what you wanna do FOR the kids … im sure many ppl will support you.

Thanks so much I think I will try that and I will tell you what I get. If I can get enough money what is a good printer I should get that is not extremly comlicated to build but still great quality.

I wish you luck when you get one. It sounds like it takes a little bit to master one. You may find the reprap IRC channel on freebies useful for advice.

Thanks

http://printrbot.com has a educational discount, printers are OK for entry level, then you can use them to build components of better printers (for other classes/schools perhaps).
Not sure I can recommend their Simple model tho.

btw, once you start that indiegogo, it be good idea to bring that bit of news to your local errrm community attention. there is sure some folk would toss in a $50

Thaks to everyone
